Highlights:

Training is a process of acquiring essential knowledge and skills required for a certain field that will relate to specific useful competencies.

IEC materials are very useful in the conduct of training since these contain the generated and developed technologies from results derived from the research studies conducted by the institute and disseminated to various stakeholders.

A total of five hundred thirty (530) IEC materials were reproduced and five hundred twenty three (523) were distributed. These include technoguides in Sapling Production; Mulberry Production/ Establishment; Silkworm Rearing and flyers on the Best Practices in Sericulture and Information Bulletin.

With the different training programs offered by the Institute, three hundred ten (310) stakeholders were trained. Out of these, five associations were organized; the Silk Weaving Association (SWA); Sericulture Handicrafts Producers Association (SHPA – Sapilang);
Sericulture Handicrafts Producers Association (SHPA – San Martin); Sericulture Entrepreneurs Association (SEA) and the United Centennial Novelty Creations (UCNC). The SWA and SHPA-Sapilang were registered to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in collaboration
with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bacnotan, La Union.

The SEA with twenty six (26) members who collectively produced 656.35 kilograms of fresh cocoons generated an income of Php 105,016.00, the SWA with seven (7) active weavers produced 118.72 meters silk fabric and 22 pieces shawl earned Php 71,232.00 and Php 19,800.00 respectively, the SHPA (Sapilang and San Martin) earned Php 18,713.00 while UCNC derived an income of Php 25,730.00 from the assorted novelty items produced and sold.
