Batac FITS center conducts Field Day cum FFS graduation
A field day on the Science and Technology Based Farm (STBF) on White Corn Production and a Farmers Field School (FFS) graduation was conducted in the farm of the Magsasaka Siyentista (MS) Napoleon Sapaden at Baoa West, Batac City, March 6.

Highlighted this activity was the presentation of the technologies applied in the demo farm of Magsasaka Siyentista Napoleon Sapaden. He compared his best practices on white corn production with the S&T interventions. His practice includes zero tillage without mulch and the application of organic fertilizers. On the other hand, the S&T interventions include zero tillage with mulch, use of organic fertilizer Bio N and Vital N. He proudly showed the benefits and yield he gained in using S & T interventions. From his experience on the S&T intervention, he was able to prove that he had gained more profit.

Meanwhile, twenty eight farmers from the adjacent fields attended and graduated in the Farmers’ Field School (FFS) conducted from the onset of rice planting and establishment of the STBF. During the scheduled farmers’ classes, the farmer participants were gathered to visit and observed the crop and demo farm of MS Sapaden while he, with the assistance of the city agriculture technicians, discussed the technology interventions applied in the demo farm. The farmers were awarded certificate of graduation.

The LGU of Batac, Partner Member Agency (PMA) -PhilRice, and ILARRDEC will look forward to the implementation of the 3rd cycle of the STBF in the next season cropping for corn.

The affair was attended by the city mayor Hon. Jeffrey Nalupta, SBM Violeta Nalupta, Philrice Manager Reynaldo Castro, and the RTPG Coordinator Leonardo Pascua. (Mary Ann Rarogal)
