This 21st symposium focused on the theme “ILARRDEC @ 30:Responding to challenges in food security and climate change through S&T”. Dr. Miriam Pascua, the RRDCC Chair of ILARRDEC presented, in her message, figures on the status of the country about poverty, food security, and climate change. She challenged each one to be more responsive in terms of addressing such alarming scenarios in our own research and development activities. Although Dr. Patricio Faylon, the Executive Director of PCARRD did not make it during the symposium, his message, read by Dr. Nimfa Torreta, gave inspiration to the participants when he quoted what Nobel Prize winner Albert Szent-Gyorgyi said: Research is four things: brains with which to think, eyes with which to see, machines with which to measure and fourth, money. “We at PCARRD could assist with the fourth ingredient, but all other inputs have to come from your end.” |
