About the FITS Center
History The municipality of Salcedo is an interior town situated in the southeasten part of the province of Ilocos Sur. The total land area is 10,344 hectares in which the cultivated agricultrural area is 3,639 heactares. The general soil type is clay loam wherein most crops grows even on the mountains. As an agricultural town, a center for Farmers Information Technology Services is needed to cater the needs of the farmer-clients. Thus, on February 9, 2006, the Salcedo Kalahi FITS center was launched.

Infrastructure (Accessibility, Floor Area, Number of rooms) The room for the FITS Center is the Office of the Department of Agriculture and the department of Agrarian Reform housed in the Municipal Hall. It has a perimeter of 7 meter by 11 meters.

Focus Commodity (include pictures)
The focus commodity is rambutan which is now being grown as an off season fruit in the country. Around 10 tons of fruits are now being harvested annually which is short of the demand of the local market.

A demo farm for production of organically grown grafted seddlings of rambutan is on going.
Information Service
Hundreds of flyers, catalogues, pamphletes and other reading materials were already given away to interested farmers.
