Field Day cum Skills Training on Tomato Storage Held

img_8193_400To remedy problems encountered by tomato growers on appropriate postharvest treatments, a field day cum skills training on tomato storage was conducted at the demo farm of MS Nestor Acosta – Bacarra, Ilocos Norte last Feb. 23.

Sponsored by the collaborative effort of the Rural Development Administration (RDA), Philippine-Rural Development Administration Alumni Association (PhilRAA), Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic, and Resources Researches and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC), Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), and the local government of Bacarra, the activity ran with lecture, technology demonstration, and practical application.

img_8218_400Lecturers were: Ms. Marissa Atis (Benchmark Information on the Storage Practices of Tomato Growers in Ilocos Norte); Prof. Maria Luisa Gabriel (Evaluation of Tomato Storage Methods and the MMSU Tomato Storage Technology).

After the lecture-forum, a techno-demo was done. Meanwhile, Magsasaka Siyentista, Nestor Acosta, shared his experience on tomato production and Storage.

picture2_400A total of 70 participants composed of farmers/tomato growers, staff and officials from various local government units, MMSU, and ILAARRDEC participated in the activity.
