Bamboo Farmer’s Field Day on CBSTBF Held
To showcase the good quality production of bamboo poles in Ilocos Norte, a farmer’s field day was conducted at the demo farm in Brgy. Salsalamagui – Vintar, Ilocos Norte last Jan. 22.
As part of the Community-Based STBF Project on Improving Production of Quality Bamboo Poles in Ilocos Norte, this activity was initiated by the collaborative effort of the Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic, and Resources Researches and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC), Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), and the local government of Vintar.
Field observation at the demo site and open forum as well as testimonies from bamboo farmers and entrepreneurs were done. For. Charlie B. Batin, project leader of the CBSTBF presented the highlights of the project. Testimonies regarding the use of the technology were also presented by the representatives from San Jera Taguipuro and Bagbag Irrigator’s Association. Meanwhile, Mr. Cesar Baguio and Mr. Johnson Buduan, bamboo entrepreneur and bamboo producer also shared their experience in venturing to bamboo handicraft and production. PCAARRD Representatives led by Dr. Nimfa Torreta also graciously joined the activity.
A total of 170 participants composed of farmers/bamboo growers, staff and officials from various local government units, MMSU, PCAARRD and ILAARRDEC, and media practitioners participated in the activity.
