Training on Sea Cucumber Post-Harvest Processing held
The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) thru the assistance of the Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic, and Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC) and Mariano Marcos State University - College of Aquatic Science and Applied Technology jointly organized a training on sea cucumber post-harvest processing last August 17-19, 2016 held at the MMSU-CASAT Campus in Currimao, Ilocos Norte.
The three-day training was attended by almost 30 participants from various agencies, LGUs and SUCs in Northern Luzon. The University of the Philippine Los Baños headed by the team of Dr. Kevin Yaptenco served as resource person of the said training.
The training aims to (1) promote improved management and governance of sea cucumber fishery through improved post-harvest processing; (2) provide an overview on the economic value of sea cucumber; (3) disseminate the technology package for post-harvest processing of sea cucumber from harvesting to drying and (4) conduct hands-on demonstration on the post-harvest technology.
The opening program was held on the second day of the training wherein it was graciously attended by MMSU OIC President and ILAARRDEC Consortium Director Dr. Prima Fe R. Franco and PCAARRD-MRD Director Dr. Mari-Ann M. Acedera. The Dean of MMSU-CASAT Campus Dr. Andres Y. Tungpalan also gave his message and acknowledged PCAARRD for choosing the campus to be the venue and host of the said training.
This training was sponsored by PCAARRD thru its Marine Research Division headed by Dr. Acedera.
